Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Programs will create the core functions for GLRF. The most immediate need is to provide a way for members of the gay and lesbian community to find rowing and for rowers to find each other. There are several key resources that GLRF can offer its members in the areas of coaching, regattas, clinics, member networks, seat search, coxswain recruiting, and learn to row. Each of these programs offers significant value to the rowing membership but all need careful planning and research.
The Director of Programs will work with the Manager of Website Services to develop cross-functional databases. In that capacity, he/she will take feedback from members and develop useful, value-added programs for the entire membership.
Although GLRF should never be in the position of telling individual clubs when or if to host a regatta or clinic, it is essential that we assist to coordinate multiple events to maximize the chances of each being a financial success. The Director of Programs will be the main point of contact to assist clubs and rowers interested in hosting a regatta or a rowing-related function at a gay pride or a gay athletic festival.
As GLRF begins to reach a critical mass, it will be in a position to begin supporting competitive rowing events through sponsored boats and/or entries. The Director of Programs will work with boathouses and coaches to select high visibility regattas that give both the team and GLRF significant exposure, and recommend a slate to the Board of Directors.
GLRF seeks an individual with a significant background in rowing and some experience in regatta management. This position does not require a base in the United States. If interested, please contact Brian Todd at execdir@glrf.info.
