Irish Sports Council Announces Details of 2015 International Carding Scheme
€1.57 million in direct athlete funding for 2015
€9.73 million in high performance funding for 2015 announced to date
The Irish Sports Council today announced details of the 2015 International Carding Scheme. €1.57 million will be invested in 75 athletes from 14 sports providing direct financial assistance to Ireland’s most talented players and athletes.
Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring said: “This investment will support our most talented athletes, many of whom are on the qualifying path towards Rio 2016. In addition to the direct investment, athletes will also have access to science, medicine and lifestyle support services through the Irish Sports Council’s Institute of Sport”.
Today’s investment includes 20 athletes (9 Olympic and 11 Paralympic) on the top category of funding (Podium) of €40,000. The clear aim of the Carding Scheme is to ensure that athletes can prepare effectively for major championships including European, World, Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Kieran Mulvey, Chairman of the Irish Sports Council commented: “I want to acknowledge the exceptional performances of the athletes who have qualified for funding in 2015. The Council remains committed to direct athlete support as an important element of the overall investment strategy for high performance sport”.
