Cox Box Squax 021
Welcome Hungary and Svizzera*!
We would like to extend a warm welcome to the newest countries within the GLRF Worldwide Community: Magyarorszag and Schweiz. The registered rowers live in Budapest and Zurich, respectively. Their memberships boost our country count to 22, and more importantly, enhance the gay and lesbian rowing community within central Europe. Both members have posted messages on their countries’ ALL OARS message board forums. Spread the word - they want to meet other local rowers. *For those who have no idea what or who, don’t go all wiki on us – it’s Switzerland!
GLRF crosses the 500 member threshold
Actually, this is old news since our 500th member, a Chicago registrant, clicked through on 09 Jul but it marks a milestone nonetheless. Marketers, advertisers, and even national rowing organizations gravitate towards numbers. Oooooh ….ahhhhhhh. We’re already speeding towards 600 with our current member count at 531. A most respectful bow to our newest member from Norway who joined GLRF simply because it is a very good thing. (message to Mr. 500 – dude, your shirt is on the way…it’s just been delayed in Boston!)
YouTube MeRow
By now, most of us have heard something about YouTube or have already become hopelessly addicted to the amazing, bizarre, and funny videos posted on this website. Since their video content is truly a community thing, we had to see what might exist for rowing. Whoah! Our search revealed 2,341 results. So in the blink of an I Dream of Jeannie nod, we created an in-house YouTube page for the GLRF community: Rowing Flix. The focus is definitely rowing but since we are a queer community, we do have license for some irreverence.
Join us at the Head of the Charles in Boston
This summer, many rowers had a chance to reconnect or meet for the first time, in Chicago or Montreal, or both. We assume some of you will converge at the Head of the Charles so please stop by the GLRF booth and say hello. We don’t have any details yet on a Saturday evening social but we are trying to put something together. Check out our HOCR webpage for more details, and visit the booth. We have some great stuff!
GLRF Chicago and Montreal pic links
Some of us went home with medals and some of us didn’t….but our warm memories remain. Visit the GLRF Chicago and Montreal web pages for links to all the online picture albums as well as our new Flickr photo slide shows, which self load and display brilliantly. Hint: double click the pics to read a running commentary.
Flickr me this, Flickr me that
Sound like the Riddler taunting Batman and Catwoman? Nope, just us announcing our increasingly flickr’d website, with some amazing pictures on our web pages (check out the Aussie page), and our Flickr photo slide shows. If you’re a photographer and want to share your pics, please join our flickr account: glrfcentral.
